The certification permits these speakers to be used in code required fire alarm systems (NFPA 72) for fire alarm and signaling. The certification streamlines for security, AV, and IT contractors the process of bidding on jobs that require speakers used for fire alarm signaling purposes. The certification exempts contractors from having to file for a code variance when installing speakers to be used as part of a fire alarm system. By procuring any of the UL 1480 certified speakers in AltasIED's TUC line dealers can adhere to code requirements for fire signaling while maintaining highly intelligible, quality audio. The TUC line includes two environment-resistant, surface-mounted speakers ( SM82TUC-WH and SM82TUC-B). Available in black or white, the Strategy Series Surface Mount (SM) Loudspeakers can be configured for 70- or 100-volt installation and distributed sound applications.

Using the Speaker in UL1480 Category UUMW Choke bracket Cover plate Conduit fitting Removable input connector Flexible metal conduit (3/8" or 1/2") Replace the cover plate to the speaker. Connector cover After completing the speaker cable connection, turn the connector cover in the direction indicated by the arrow, and fix the cover with 2 screws. Remove the choke bracket and the cover plate from the speaker. Note The removed choke bracket is not used. To install this speaker as a fire alarm signaling service UUMW, use flexible conduit of 3/8 or 1/2 inch trade size and the UL514B listed conduit fitting of the same trade size. Mount the conduit fitting to the cover plate. Connect the conduit to the fitting, and wire the removable input connector. (For wiring the input connector, refer to p. 10. ) Plug the wired input connector into the speaker's socket. 7
